Stop Airtime Camera from going away automatically

When no app is using your Airtime camera anymore, Airtime Camera turns your camera off and goes into Away mode. This is called automatic away mode. It is on by default. If you do not want your camera to turn off by itself, you can turn this off.

What automatic away mode does

Automatic away mode starts when the last app that uses the Airtime virtual camera disconnects. For example, this happens when you leave a Zoom, Microsoft Teams or Google Meet call.

  1. A banner shows which app disconnected and counts down until your camera turns off.

  2. After 15 seconds, your camera turns off and your Away screen shows.
  3. A banner shows: Your camera will turn back on when an app connects to the virtual camera.
  4. When you join your next call, your camera turns back on by itself.

Automatic away mode never turns off Away mode that you turned on yourself. If you turned on Away mode manually, turn it off with the Away toggle. See Use the Away mode in Airtime Camera.

Keep your camera on one time

While the countdown banner shows, click Keep camera on on the banner. Your camera stays on. Automatic away mode starts again the next time the last app disconnects.

Turn off automatic away mode

  1. In the Airtime Camera window, click your account icon or profile photo in the top-left corner.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. In the Settings window, select Camera.
  4. Under Camera Window, turn off Automatically go away.

Your camera now stays on when you leave a call. To turn the feature on again, turn on Automatically go away.

Tip: The first time you click Keep camera on on the countdown banner, Airtime shows Turn off automatic away mode in Settings. Click Settings in that banner to go directly to this setting.

Older versions of Airtime: If the menu has no Settings item, click Automatically go away in that menu to remove the checkmark.
