Read the transcript and summary of an Airtime Recorder video

Every video recorded with Airtime Recorder has a transcript you can read beside the video. Many videos also have a summary: a short overview, the key points, any asks, and the video's chapters. Anyone who can watch the video can read both.

Open the transcript

  1. Open the video link.
  2. Click Transcript at the top of the page. On a phone, tap the panel icon in the player controls.

The panel opens beside the video. To close it, click Transcript again, or click × in the panel. To make the panel wider or narrower, drag the handle on its left edge.

Read along as the video plays

  • The word being spoken is highlighted, and the transcript scrolls to keep it in view.
  • Click any word to jump the video to that moment.
  • To stop the transcript from following the video, open the ⋯ menu in the panel and turn off Auto-scroll. Turn it back on to follow the video again.
  • While the transcript is open, the words show in the transcript instead of as captions on the video. The player's caption button says Captions are shown in the transcript. Captions the owner burned into the video still show.

Videos with speech from your camera and your screen

If a recording has speech from your microphone and from your computer's sound (for example, a video playing on your screen), each paragraph is marked Camera or Screen. Use Read along with to show Both tracks, or only Camera or Screen.

Read the summary

When a video has a summary, the panel has a second tab: Summary. At the top, small tags show details such as the video's length, its number of chapters and its language. Below them, the summary has up to four parts:

  • In short — the video in a few sentences.
  • Key points — the main ideas. Click one to jump to the moment it was said.
  • Asks — anything the video asks you to do. Click one to jump to that moment.
  • Chapter by chapter — each chapter with its start time. Click Play chapter to watch from there, or Read along from here to open the transcript at that point.

A part only appears when the video has something to put in it. For example, a video that asks nothing of its viewers has no Asks.

For video owners: how the summary is made

  • Airtime writes the summary for you. While it works, the Summary tab shows Analyzing your video… and then Writing the summary…
  • After you edit your video and save, the summary updates by itself shortly afterwards, so it matches the edited video.
  • To get a new summary at any time, click Regenerate summary (↻) at the top of the Summary tab.

⚠️ Note: Only the video's owner can regenerate a summary. People you share the video with see the summary once it exists. Until then, they see the transcript only.

If there's no transcript or summary

  • This video has no speech — the recording has no talking, so there's nothing to transcribe or summarize.
  • Summary not available for this video — Airtime can't write a summary for this video. The transcript is still there.
  • We couldn't analyze this video or The summary couldn't be generated — click Retry. If it keeps failing, contact us below.
