Edit your Airtime Recorder video by editing its transcript

You can edit your video by editing its transcript. Delete words in the text and the video cuts them out. Remove filler words like "um" and "uh" and long pauses in a few clicks, and fix words the transcript got wrong.

Open the transcript in the editor

  1. Open your video and click Edit video.
  2. The editor opens on Transcript, on the right-hand side. If it shows another pane, click Transcript there.

The menu at the top of the pane switches between three views:

  • Edit — the whole transcript, with removed words struck through. This is where you edit.
  • Current — only the words left in your edited video.
  • Original — the transcript as you recorded it.

Click any word to jump the video to that moment.

Cut words from your video

  1. Select the words: Drag across them. Or click the first word and Shift-click the last one.
  2. Check the selection: A bar at the bottom of the pane shows the selected time and the number of words. Click Listen to hear it. Point at Delete to preview the cut.

  3. Cut them: Click Delete, or press Delete or Backspace on your keyboard.
  4. Save your changes: Click Save changes in the top right corner.

The cut words stay in the transcript, struck through, so you can always see what you removed. The top of the pane shows the new length of your video and the number of edits.

Bring words back

  • Point at a struck-through word and click Restore.
  • In the Edit view, click Restore all at the top of the pane to bring back everything you cut. It isn't available if your camera and screen were edited separately on the timeline.
  • Press ⌘ Z (Mac) or Ctrl Z (Windows) to undo your last edit, and ⌘ Shift Z or Ctrl Shift Z to redo it.

Remove filler words and pauses

Airtime finds filler words like "um" and "uh", and pauses of a second or more. They're underlined in the transcript, and pauses show their length. The Can be removed box at the top of the pane counts them and shows how much shorter your video gets.

  1. Click Can be removed to open it.

  2. To remove them all at once, click Remove all next to the filler words or the pauses.
  3. To decide one by one, click Review. Step through them with Previous and Next, click Listen to hear each one, then Remove or Restore it. Click Done when you're finished.
  4. Click Save changes.

Removed fillers and pauses are struck through like any other cut, so you can restore each one on its own. A shortened pause keeps a short natural gap, so your speech doesn't sound rushed.

💡 Tip: Automatic Edits can remove fillers and shorten pauses for you, with its Cleanup switch. See Use Automatic Edits to turn a raw recording into a polished video in Airtime Recorder.

Fix a word the transcript got wrong

  1. Double-click the word. Or click it once and then click Fix text in the bar at the bottom. A box opens with the word.

  2. Type the correct word and press Enter or click Done. Press Esc to discard the change.
  3. Save your changes: Click Save changes.

A correction changes only the text. The audio, the cuts and the timing stay as recorded. The corrected word shows in the transcript and in your captions.

In the same box you can also:

  • Click Apply to all to fix every place the same word was heard.
  • Click Insert before or Insert after to add a word the transcript missed.
  • Click Hide word · audio stays to take a word out of the text without cutting it from the video.
  • Press Tab to move on to the next word.

To see or undo your corrections, open the ⋯ menu at the top of the pane and choose Corrections (followed by the number of corrections). Click Revert next to a correction, or Revert all.

Check unclear words and names

When Airtime isn't sure it heard some words right, the top of the pane shows a chip like 2 unclear · Review. Click it to step through those words. Fix each one, or click Keep to leave it as it is.

If a word looks like a misheard name, the box may show a Suggestion. Click Apply to use it. Suggestions are never applied for you.

More options

The ⋯ menu at the top of the pane also has:

  • Auto-scroll — keep the transcript following the video as it plays.
  • Highlight filler words and Show every pause length.
  • Copy transcript and Download transcript.

Why don't I see a transcript?

If the pane says No speech to transcribe, your video has no speech, so there's nothing to cut by text. You can still cut it on the timeline. See Split and edit video in Airtime Recorder.
