Automatic Edits uses AI to turn a raw recording into a finished-looking video in one step. It reads through your video and adds Chapters, Scenes and a Theme. It can also clean up filler words and pauses, turn on captions, and turn on audio effects. Everything lands on your timeline, so you can review, fine-tune or undo anything you don't like.
Think of it as a smart first draft: the AI makes the structural and stylistic decisions for you, and you stay in control of the result.
Start Automatic Edits
On your video's page, the Automatic Edits button shows whether automatic edits are ON or OFF, and how many edits are applied.
- If Automatic Edits is OFF, click Edit video. If your video has no automatic edits yet, they start as the editor opens. Open Auto edits in the editor to watch their progress.
- Click the Automatic Edits button to open the editor on the Auto edits pane, where you can see and change every automatic edit.
- These buttons show on a computer only, and only to the video's owner.
- In the editor, click Auto edits at the bottom of the right-hand side. If your video has no automatic edits yet, click Preview auto-edits.
While it works, the pane shows Analyzing your video… and then Generating scenes…. You can keep editing in the meantime. When it's done, click Save changes in the top right corner to keep the result.
The Automatic Edits pane
At the top of the pane you'll see:
- A master switch that turns automatic edits on or off at once. Turning it off switches off chapters and scenes, puts back everything Cleanup removed, and turns off the captions and audio effects that Automatic Edits turned on. Your own edits stay. Turn it back on and the automatic edits reappear. The switch becomes available once the edits are generated.
- A count badge (for example, 14) with the number of edits currently applied.
Below it, each type of edit has its own row. Click a row to open it and see or change its edits. Most rows have their own switch, so you can turn one type of edit off and keep the others.
Chapters
Chapters break your video into labeled segments based on what's being said and shown. Each chapter has a timestamp, a title and an optional description.
- Rename a chapter: click its title and type a new one.
- Add a description: click Add description under any chapter.
- Add a chapter: click Add chapter at the bottom of the list.
- Re-generate: click Re-generate to have the AI rebuild the chapter list from scratch.
Scenes
Scenes are the layouts applied across your video: how the screen recording, your camera, titles and text are arranged at each point in time. Automatic Edits picks a layout for each moment based on what's happening.
Open the Scenes row to see every scene with its start time and layout. To change a scene, pick a different layout from its menu. Click Add scene to add one, or Re-generate scenes to have the AI pick them again. A video always keeps at least one scene.
The layouts are grouped roughly as follows:
| Category | Layout |
|---|---|
| Intro & statement cards | Title card |
| Agenda (presenter + bullets) | |
| Call to action (presenter + bullets) | |
| Full-screen statement | |

Theme
The Theme sets the accent color used across titles, layouts and on-screen elements. Open the row and click any color to apply it to every scene at once. It's an easy way to match your brand without editing scenes one by one.
While Automatic Edits is still working, the Theme and Scenes rows are greyed out. They unlock as soon as their part is ready.
Cleanup
Cleanup makes your video tighter with one switch:
- Fillers — removes um, uh and other hesitations.
- Pauses — shortens long pauses, and keeps the ones left for the viewer.
- Silence — trims the silence at the start and end of your video.
After a run, the row says what it did, for example Removed 7 fillers · Shortened 2 pauses · Trimmed start/end. Every removed filler and shortened pause is struck through in the transcript, so you can restore any of them on its own. See Edit your Airtime Recorder video by editing its transcript.
Captions
When your video has speech, Automatic Edits turns on burned-in captions in a style chosen from the video's tone, for example Karaoke for an upbeat video or Reveal for a tutorial or presentation. Otherwise it uses Clean. If you already turned captions on yourself, it leaves them as they are.
Click Edit captions to change the style. See Add closed captions to your Airtime Recorder video.
Audio
Automatic Edits also turns on the audio effects your recording can use: Ducking lowers screen audio while you speak, and Enhanced Studio removes noise and levels your voice. Click Open Audio to change them. See Remove background noise from your Airtime Recorder video.
Editing on the timeline
Every automatic edit also appears on the editor's timeline, where you can preview the finished video and make changes in context.
- Chapters run along the top track as labeled segments, aligned to the time ruler.
- Scenes appear as blocks on the track below, each labeled with its layout.
If something goes wrong
If the pane shows Something went wrong, follow its message. We don't have enough audio to process this request means the recording has too little speech for Automatic Edits. Otherwise, try again in a moment.
Tips
- Set your Theme early. Because the theme color flows through every scene, choosing it first saves you from re-checking layouts later.
- Toggle rows to compare. Turning a row's switch off temporarily is a quick way to see its effect without deleting anything.
A note on the preview feature
Automatic Edits is a preview feature that's still being refined. If you have thoughts on what's working or what could be better, click Share feedback at the bottom of the pane.
