How can I get better audio in my Airtime Recorder recordings?

Most audio problems in a recording come from the room and the setup, not from the recording itself. A few things before you hit Record make a large difference.

Wear headphones

This is the single most useful one. If you record system audio while your speakers are playing, your microphone picks that sound up as well. Your voice then arrives twice - once from the microphone, and once again through your computer's audio - which sounds hollow or doubled.

Headphones or a headset keep the two apart. Your voice is captured once, and your computer's sound is captured cleanly.

Record somewhere quiet, and stay close to your microphone

Airtime records your microphone as it is. Fans, traffic, keyboards and open rooms all end up in the video. Close the door, stop other apps from making noise, and sit close to the microphone. An external microphone or a headset microphone is a clear step up from a built-in laptop microphone.

Check your microphone before you record

In the "New recording" window, confirm the microphone dropdown does not show "No microphone", and speak once to confirm it responds. A recording made with a muted or unselected microphone has no voice in it, and that cannot be fixed afterwards.

Turn on system audio before you start

To capture music, videos or app sounds from your computer, open the Options menu and enable Record system audio before recording. It cannot be turned on once recording has started - see How can I include my computer's sound in an Airtime Recorder recording?

Fix the balance afterwards, not by re-recording

If your voice is too quiet against your computer's sound, or the other way round, you do not need to record again. Open the video in the editor and adjust the two tracks independently - see How do I adjust audio volume levels in the video editor?
