Forgot a step, or want an intro or a closing thought? You can record more footage and add it to a video you've already recorded: insert it in the middle, at the playhead, or append it at the end. You don't have to start over.
Add a recording
- Open your video and click Edit video.
- To add the recording in the middle, move the playhead to where it should go.
- In the timeline toolbar, click Add Recording and choose where it goes:
- At end of video: after the last segment.
- At playhead · 0:15 (shows the playhead time): the line under it says where, for example Between segments 1 and 2, Splits segment 2 at the playhead or Before segment 1.
- The recorder opens with the title Add recording. A strip under the title shows the words just before and just after the spot you chose, and the time it goes in at (or End). Check that this is the right place.
- Click Record, record as usual, then stop the recording.
To re-record a part instead of adding to it, see Re-record part of your Airtime Recorder video (Retake).
Review and save the recording
Your new recording appears on the timeline where you chose, with a dashed outline and its length (for example New · 0:22). Everything after it moves later to make room. Nothing is final yet.
- Wait until the bar above the clip shows Ready.
- Play the video, then choose:
- Use recording: keep it.
- Record again: record it again in the same place.
- Discard: remove the new recording. Your video goes back to how it was.
- Click Save changes in the top right corner. Use recording adds the clip to your edit, but does not save it.
If the clip shows Failed, click Try again. While a new recording is in review, other edits wait. Point at a dimmed button to see Use or discard the take first. For more on reviewing a take, see Review your retake.
If you record in the Airtime app
If the Airtime desktop app is installed, Airtime offers to record there.
- If you have unsaved edits, Airtime asks you to deal with them first, because the recording comes back in a new editor tab that loads the saved video. The Unsaved changes dialog offers:
- Save & record: saves your edits, then continues.
- Discard & record: throws away your unsaved edits, then continues.
- Cancel: go back without recording.
- Choose Record in the Airtime app, or Open here instead to record in the browser. Tick Always open in browser to skip this next time.
- When you finish recording, a new editor tab opens with the recording in review. Continue there.
If the video changed after you started recording, Airtime adds the recording at the end and shows Recording added at the end. Move it where you want it.
What to expect
- You can move it afterwards. Select the segment and click Move earlier or Move later.
- You can edit it like any other clip: trim, split or delete it.
- It doesn't have to match your first recording. You can add a camera-only clip to a video recorded with camera and screen. The recorder tells you, for example No screen in this take.
- Adding a recording doesn't use up a video from your monthly limit. The recording-length limit still applies.
